Debut California Concert by the talented Bihar Brothers
Happening at Meherabode on November 14 (8 pm)

NEWSFLASH:

Concerts at Meherabode and Music Circle will co-present an evening concert by the Bihar Brothers, on their debut US tour (in the first of three California concerts).  These younger-generation senior students of the Gundecha Brothers will perform as duet vocalists in the Dhrupad tradition, accompanied by pakhawaj. The Friday night concert (November 14) will be held at Meherabode.

Your humble servant (David Raphael Israel) had the pleasure of attending daily classes under the Gundecha Brothers in company with these bright lads (Sanjeev Jha and Manish Kumar, both originally from Bihar) -- who however (unlike yours truly) stayed on studying and practicing assiduously daily for the past 7 years.  The results of their hard work will be on display for your musical delight in this special autumn concert event.

So I'm the guy who announces the concert, and they're the young gentlemen who will wow the intimate audience at Meherabode with a next-generation dhrupad experience.

More info will be posted in this space further along.  End of Newsflash!

The Sunday, July 20 concert has been canceled

Please note -- the concert we had planned for July 20th has been canceled (the reason being, the visiting artists from India -- surprisingly -- were not granted US visas for their tour).  Perhaps some future season we will enjoy the violin of Delhi R. Sridhar and tabla of Prosenjit Poddar.  Meanwhile, best wishes to the artists.

The next  Concert at Meherabode will be held on the afternoon of SUNDAY, AUGUST 3rd.

Details will be posted on this blog soon.

Namaskar,
